Hydration Elixir Recipe

Hydration Elixir Recipe

This is my answer to dehydration that comes with pregnancy morning sickness (aka, 24/7 sickness for me). It works out perfectly because I also live in Texas, so it is very, very hot and this recipe can be used by anyone trying not to shrivel up and die during the walk from the house to the car! Also great if you’re recovering from a stomach bug or food poisoning.

What you’ll need:

  • 20-30oz of water (depends on your cup size…)
  • 1 packet of Ener-C (found at Central Market but is on Amazon too – I like it better than Emergen-C and I LOVE the cranberry flavor)
  • 1-2 Scoops Vital Proteins unflavored collagen powder (I think techinally 1 serving is two scoops but I’ve always used one…)
  • 1 Tablet of Nuun Electrolyte (Can be found at Target, I use the Strawberry Lemon flavor)

Ideally you’ll want to keep this in a cup that will keep it realllly cold and icy because it tastes best and it’s better to sip over time versus chug all at once (ESPECIALLY if you’re in the nauseous category!)

HOW TO MIX:

Add small amount of room temp or warm-ish water to your cup or blender bottle and add the collagen (it mixes better than with cold water). Stir, shake or otherwise mix it together. This collagen is a game changer to me…it adds protein which can help if you can’t keep any food down!

Add rest of water and then add the Ener-C or Emergen-C and stir.

Add the Nuun last so it has time to dissolve and bubble.

Finally fill the rest with ice and stir or shake. If it’s too sweet for you, take out the Ener-C or split the mix between 2 cups and dilute it more. I like mine sweet and flavorful. This is not a scientific recipe, add and remove as you please!

FAVORITE BEVERAGE CONTAINERS:

I’m a big fan of Yeti, Hydroflask and other vacuum sealed stainless steel cups. These are my 2 favorites to keep this drink in. (You could also use a Nalgene or Big mason jar but it just melts more quickly).

The left cup was my favorite last pregnancy but it has been replaced by my ALL TIME FAVE on the right because the lid doesn’t leak and the straw is attached. SCORE!
