Behind the Scenes With a 4 Month Old

Behind the Scenes With a 4 Month Old

Baby update:

Syd had a 4 month checkup this month. She’s 13lbs 5oz and 23.5 inches long and I never remember to write down head circumference so I can’t remember that. It was a weird checkup since everyone was wearing masks and scrubs! (Our doctor is usually dressed up).

She’s getting really strong with tummy time and pulls her torso all the way up. Not rolling back to tummy yet but sooooo close – she gets all the way to her side.

Mom update:

We’re at a full month of quarantine. It’s still a balance and managing two separate kids and not “the kids” if that makes sense. Syd still naps so much I have to plan two different time tables and activities. It will be nice when their schedules align more!

Eating:

She’s nursing really well! Still spitting up a lot – we give her a probiotic every night before bed. I pump before bed and that’s it! We usually give her a few oz of milk in a bottle after I nurse her at night.

We decided to wait until 6 months to start solids with her so we haven’t incorporated any baby food yet.

Sleeping:

She’s in her pack and play – we don’t have a crib yet for her – and sleeping pretty well. She has one off nights where she just screams for seemingly no reason (is one night sleep regression a thing?), so I’ll usually let her sit up with me for like 30 minutes then put her back to bed and she’s fine.

She is mostly in her Merlin suit and we’ve tried a sleep sack occasionally. We love the Kyte sleep sacks but the smallest we have is a 6-18 month so I need to order a smaller one.

We are on the Moms on Call 8-16 week schedule with her still since we aren’t doing solids and it’s going well – it will be nice when we switch to the 4-6 month schedule so both kids nap at the same time!!

Diapers:

She’s in size 2 diapers and we are still big fans of the Costco diapers so that’s all we buy!

What we wear:

Still in 3 month clothes! Half long sleeve, half tank tops because Texas weather is weird.

Gear we love:

I don’t love the Boppy for actually nursing but I love it for tummy time at this age and then at about 6 months for newly sitting babies to give them some support! (This is the pillow I love for nursing in the early days…)

She also loves her Lammie that Archer got her. The Mary Meyer putty dolls are the best – the perfect size and softness for little hands!

The toddler:

We started potty training Archer so goodbye to diapers for him. He’s doing great but it is a little stressful to hope he isn’t having an accident while I’m doing something for Sydney!

Managing the two:

We go on lots of walks! Sydney in the stroller and Archer walking with me. Everything is still closed for kids so there isn’t a whole lot for us to do out of the house. Luckily the weather is nice and we just play outside a lot!

Sometimes I worry that Sydney will be too attached to her schedule since we’ve been home for so long but I have no idea how to remedy that since it’s really nice for her to nap in her crib all the time!

Fun things that happened:

Meeting baby cousin! We finally reintroduced some close family who had also been quarantining and got to meet my little baby nephew!!

Mother’s Day as a mom of 2! It was so special and I got to sleep a lot! 🙂
